Happy New Year, one and all.
I’ll keep this one short, to help us (me) ease back into the swing of things.
Every good writer knows that the key to bringing a story to life lies in revision. I have to imagine that the same rule applies to Substack publications. I started The Spittoon last year with no plan and only a single guiding principle—everything I wrote had to be authentic. Fortunately, that seemed to be enough for a method to arise from the madness. So now, as we come into 2023, I’d like to lay that method out a bit such that all of us, old and new, can start off on the same page together.
What you can expect this year:
Two posts each month, sent directly to your inbox. These may include:
Works of Non-Fiction - Long-form articles exploring different facets of addiction through my biased, personal lens
Works of Fiction - Original short stories, written by your’s truly
Works of Others - Posts aimed to highlight the cool things going on in the community.
But wait there’s more!
For friends of fiction, I’ll also be serializing the first draft of my novel Still Life of Desert Animals for your reading pleasure. More details to come, but I’m excited to have a place where I get to share this will you all.
So there you have it, somewhat of an actual road map. I look forward to seeing how off course we get, come next year. And, of course, thank you all for being a part of the ride.
Until next time,
Looking forward to The Spittoon 2023!
